This artist’s impression shows the super-Earth 55 Cancri e in front of its parent star. Using observations made with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope and new analytic software scientists were able to analyse the composition of its atmosphere.
A wide field image of the region of sky in which HD 189733b is located. In this image we can see the asterism of the 'Summer Triangle' a giant triangle in the sky composed of the three bright stars Vega (top left), Altair (lower middle) and Deneb (far left).
This is the galaxy known as NGC 5548. At its heart, though not visible here, is a supermassive black hole behaving in a strange and unexpected manner.
