WEAKNESS OF ATTITUDE BECOMES WEAKNESS OF CHARACTER

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. We like to display our strengths to gain praise from those around us. Equally so, most of us look to shield or hide our weaknesses.

While you should continue to build on your strengths, to ensure that they remain your strengths, what will make quantum leaps in your self-confidence and personal value is to focus and improve on your weaknesses. Your weaknesses are a part of you, though they don't always have to be an anchor on your life or career. Identify them, face them and fix them.

I don't know about you...but I find facing my weakness to be a very difficult task to do. To sit down, identify the weakness and come up with ways to improve on them is daunting. Especially if the way you found out about your weakness is in front of a large group of people!

For most, the first instinct is to curl into a ball and never come back out. But you are limiting your options if you do so!

Ways to Work on your Weaknesses:

You are not alone in your journey to continual development. In the workplace, build strong and trusting relationships with your co-workers. By building up these friendships, it becomes a team effort where you help each other achieve goals. Having an empowering team can mean a lot when you are overcoming challenges.

If you want to overcome your weaknesses and build on them, you must have clear objectives and plans to achieve them. You need to map out and understand what is the exact problem along with a number of possible solutions. Failing to plan is planning to fail

Focus on small victories. You won't overcome your weakness in a day so don't be too harsh on yourself. It takes time and resilience to turn the weakness into a strength. When you have made progress...celebrate! Nothing beats giving yourself a pat on the back after a job well done.

You can use the essence and fundamentals of your strengths to assist in developing what you are weak on. Focus on your strengths and discover what aspect of them can be used. Use your strengths to leap over the fear factor and trust in yourself. Build up confidence with actions that you are good at.

Take Home Message:

Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character:-- Face up to your weaknesses. Speak to your friends and colleagues to develop a plan that can turn that weakness into something you are confident and proud of. By overcoming challenges you give yourself more opportunities and options in life to experience what you couldn't before.

Your weaknesses are your most valuable targets for improvement.

Attitude And Character:

A human being has reasons why he/she does things. He makes decisions every single minute, tons of it. There are values and principles in life that he follows, which affect how he approach people and handle situations. A human being also has something innate in him/her, which comprises his entire being or his very essence. A human being has an identity that makes him a unique individual. All of these things that a person has are called attitude and character.

Though they are both abstract and are only found in the inner part of a human being's personhood, both are two completely different things. Let us tackle the differences between these two words.

Attitude is a choice. Attitude determines how you handle or approach certain things, and it is all up to your own decision how you are going to do those particular things. This means that attitude is a choice, and you can change it to fit the situation or environment you are in. Compared to character, it is already innate in every person and it is not subject for change. It makes you do things you are not supposed to do in front of many people, but you do it anyway because that's your character. Or character makes you do well while the others are not even though no one is watching. You do it just because that is who you are. Attitude is a choice, whereas character is an identity.

You can gain your character with the right values and education, while you can get your attitude trough hard knocks or through experience. Attitude shows what a person wants while character does not give importance to wants, it will just directly show what qualities a person lives by. You can easily notice someone's character because it shows externally. Attitudes are not that easy to figure out because it is within a person and it is up for him to change it and fit in. It will take you a long time to know the attitude of a person but knowing someone's character is fast.

Attitude is something you can choose to change in a short span of time unlike someone's character, which will take you a very long time to change. Here are some of the good characters one must have to enhance his values in life, these are; courage, patience, honesty, integrity, loyalty and many more. A bad character is called vices, and here are some example of vices; falsehood, dishonesty, sloth, procrastination and more. Character makes up your entire identity. Having the right values makes up a great character.

1. You can change your attitude but you can't change your character just like that.

2. Character is more on identity attitude is on how you approach things.

3. Character can be built through education while attitude is built through experience.

4. You can easily notice character because it surfaces through the people, while attitude is hard to see because a person can manipulate ones attitude.

For so long I pondered the difference between these two words Attitude and Character, until I finally understood that though they appear similar in sense, there is a huge contrast between both.

Attitude according to a psychology student, is a way of feeling about a specific situation which makes you use a particular facial expressions and body language to respond.

Character on the other hand is the mental and moral qualities and innate thoughts developed in the course of life which decides what your attitude is towards a specific situation.

In other words, attitude is the way of expression, and character decides what and how to express.

Personally I have come to understand Attitude as a method in which one reacts to different situations I.e your style of action, and Character as what makes one do a particular thing or behave a certain way I.e your intent of action.

The difference between attitude and character is that Attitude is an opinion/conviction towards a particular thing and it changes according to different situations/events, while Character can be said to be something innate, as it lies within and is not susceptible to change, so that it becomes an identity, a part of us.

In other words, Attitude is a choice, character is an identity.

Character is also based on learning and practice while attitude is based on experience.

Attitude is the sum total of a persons preference for a particular situation or thing, while Character is the overall assessment of a person's qualities.

In a nutshell, character is the innate ability/qualities of a person, but attitude is the manner in which we react to situations irrespective of our qualities.

Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.

We should be careful about how we choose to react to situations, because our approach to a situation would determine the outcome of that situation.

Attitude and character are two words that appear similar in sense but strictly speaking there is difference between the two. Attitude is the opinion or the method by which one approaches a given situation. Character on the other hand makes one to do a particular thing even if the world is watching.

Character is the very essence of a particular man. It is indeed what the person is within. It is not liable to change. Attitude is liable to change according to the situation. It is after all a kind of surface emotion.

One of the main differences between attitude and character is that character is identity whereas attitude is a firm opinion about something. Character is built by education. Attitude on the other hand is build by experience.

Attitude represents an individual's degree of likes or dislikes for a given thing or a given situation. Character is nothing about likes and dislikes of a given thing or a given situation for that matter. It is all about evaluation of a person's qualities.

Character impresses us for it is felt externally. Attitudes are not felt simply because they are well within an individual. It takes a long time for us to the attitude in others whereas we can sense the character of others in a short period of time. This is primarily the reason why some characters in an epic impress us. We get impressed by the qualities present in these characters.

Virtues that build up good character include courage, patience, fortitude, integrity, honesty, loyalty and good habits. Vices that build up bad character include falsehood, avarice, lust, dishonesty, immodesty and the like.

One of the biggest differences between character and attitude is that character cannot change in a short period of time, whereas attitude can change in a short period of time.
